Through her great patience and constant prayers along with her examples of kindness, Monica was blessed with the conversion to Christianity of both her husband and son. In today's world of instant gratification, Monica is a sterling example of patience and intercessory prayer. Her many years of prayer and her unfailing trust in Gods will were richly rewarded. Prayer to St. Monica Exemplary Mother of the Great Augustine, you perseveringly pursued your wayward son, not with wild threats but with prayerful cries to heaven. Intercede for all mothers in our day so that they may learn to draw their children to God. Teach them how to remain close to their children, even the prodigal sons and daughters who have sadly gone astray. Amen.

Queenship of Our Blessed Mother Mary, August 22 Reflection As Saint Paul suggests in Romans 8:28–30, God has predestined human beings from all eternity to share the image of his Son. All the more was Mary predestined to be the mother of Jesus. As Jesus was to be king of all creation, Mary, in dependence on Jesus, was to be queen. All other titles to queenship derive from this eternal intention of God. As Jesus exercised his kingship on earth by serving his Father and his fellow human beings, so did Mary exercise her queenship. St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe, Feast Day August 14. July 1941, Auschwitz concentration camp, Oświęcim (German: Auschwitz), German-occupied Poland. At the end of July 1941, three prisoners disappeared from the camp, prompting the SS to pick 10 random men to be starved to death in an underground bunker. They did this in order to deter further escape attempts. When one of the selected men cried out, "My wife! My children!" St. Maximilian Kolbe, who not been chosen for death, stepped forward and simply said, "I am a Catholic Priest. Take me instead."
